Case Study
For our Asahi spec ad, we set out to reimagine the brand through an 80s-inspired lens by leaning into neon tones, analog textures, and the era’s simple, feel-good energy. While we couldn’t find a strong 80s commercial to directly recreate, we built our own interpretation of that retro aesthetic, blending vintage vibes with a modern touch to give Asahi a nostalgic yet fresh rebrand concept.
A New Spin On Asahi
When we set out to create our Asahi spec ad, the goal was to reintroduce the brand through a retro 80s lens. We aimed to bring back the warmth, grain, and charm of that era with neon accents, soft analog texture, and the simple, iconic look that defined classic advertising. Without a strong 80s commercial to recreate, we leaned into our own creative interpretation, building a nostalgic visual world that lets the retro aesthetic shine while giving Asahi a fresh, reimagined identity.

Our Creative Approach
We started with research on the way products were advertised back in the 80s. If we wanted to recapture the feeling it had to be authentic. We found it was less about the product, and more about the story attached to that product.
- Research
We dove into 80s commercials, design trends, and visual signatures to understand what defined the era’s look and energy. Even without a perfect ad to recreate, this research helped us narrow in on the elements that would shape our concept. - Storyboarding & Scripting
We built a simple narrative centered around nostalgia, clean visuals, and iconic retro moments. Our boards helped us map out the pacing and tone needed to make the Asahi brand feel authentically 80s. - Set Dressing
We selected props, colors, and lighting that recreated the charm of classic 80s advertising. Neon touches, analog textures, and minimalistic details worked together to ground the ad in that era’s aesthetic. - Production & Posting
We shot with deliberate, stylized movements and lighting setups that supported the retro feel. In post, we refined the look with grain, analog texture, and a nostalgic color grade to complete the 80s-inspired world.

Results
The results speak for themselves, we successfully executed our goal and recreated that aesthetic we were dreaming of. Even some eyeballs at Asahi liked our post!
